What is Celestia (TIA)?

Celestia has been developed as a modular data availability network that securely scales with the number of users, making it easy for anyone to launch their own blockchain with a low operational cost. It is positioned as the first modular blockchain network, launched on October 31, 2023.

TIA is Celestia’s native token and is an essential part of how developers build on the first modular blockchain network.

An inflation schedule for TIA starts at 8% in the first year and decreases each year until it reaches the inflation floor of 1.5% annually

What does Celestia do?

TIA can be used as a gas token and currency on Celestia’s network, or as fees for Blobspace, and data availability. It is used to secure the network and incentivize participation in governance.

Celestia’s core vision is to eliminate the need for developers to issue tokens when launching their own blockchain, allowing them to focus on creating their application or execution layer.

How do Celestia consensus and network validation work?

Celestia is a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain based on CometBFT and the Cosmos SDK. Celestia supports in-protocol delegation and was launched with an initial validator set of 100.

Staking TIA as a validator or delegator enables users to earn staking rewards from the network. Validators charge delegators a fee, which gives them a percentage of staking rewards.

As a permissionless network built with the Cosmos SDK, Celestia uses proof-of-stake to secure its own consensus. Like in other Cosmos networks, any user can help secure the network by delegating their TIA to a Celestia validator for a portion of their validator’s staking rewards.

What is the maximum token supply for TIA?

Celestia is limited to a maximum of 1 billion FIL.
